NEW OLD

Through bold and inventive art programs, NEW OLD collective ensures that older adults–especially in communities of color and with disabilities–are celebrated for who they are today. We see intergenerational artmaking practices as design for our future selves, countering ageist stereotypes and creating space for equitable and accessible wellbeing.

Voces Mayores / Elder Voices

Voces Mayores/Elder Voices is an 8-session bilingual (Spanish/English) workshop series where older adults from the greater Providence area take part in artmaking, storytelling and bookmaking, culminating in a collaboratively-designed printed collection which presents their work to the broader community. Hosted at Federal Hill House, it is designed and led by the NEW OLD art collective, Aisha Jandosova and Jeffrey Yoo Warren.

By making space for predominantly low-income, immigrant, older women of color to express themselves as artists and creators, and supporting this group with materials and a platform for voicing their perspectives and personal stories, this program promotes individual and collective wellbeing, empowerment and visibility for this multiply marginalized community.
